Today we take a look at a Land Raider and the British Mark V tank. One is used in 40,000 A.D. and the other one the 1910's. So what makes me compare these two mother of tanks? We'll see won't we?
The main reason I am doing this article is to show you the difference between a Land Raider and the Mark V. First things first both of these are considered MOTHER OF TANKS. Why? Well the Land Raider is the most commonly used transport/heavy in the Space Marines legion making it Mother of tanks since it's the big daddy tank that does everything, even though it's a mother which makes no sense. The Mark V, is the mother of tanks because it was the fifth version of the mother of tanks. This thing was the fifth thing that started it all. It deserves a salute. So why do I choose the fifth instead of the first (the real mother of functioning tanks)? Because the fifth looks more like a Land Raider then the previous one.
Wait what? Did I just said that a World War 1 tank, one of the first tanks, was similar to the advanced technology to the tanks of the year 40,000? Yes, I did. Here's a picture to illustrate... (Yes, I'm aware that's a MkIV, who cares they're similar)
Are you seeing the similarities? Here's a hint, flip either one upside down. That helped? Good. So in my opinion the Land Raider is just a glorified Mark V. The only reason the Land Raider's tracks are 'flipped' is that it looks modern and also so that GW can avoid a lawsuit by the British Government. The guns are slightly different, now they have two barrels sticking out of the side turrets, which the Mk V had by the way. Oh plus a flattened top, and more gadgets up there. But other then that they are pretty much the same.
Now you see, I can get a MkV/IV/III/VI for ten bucks on eBay if I got really lucky, and a new kit for just twenty. You'd be really lucky to find a Land Raider for less then forty bucks, and a new one? 75 bucks... I know that you're looking at what potentially is the biggest contrast of modern and 'primitive' tanks but they look similar, sort of.
They're obviously very different, but the way I look at it I could buy this tank that looks almost the same to the Land Raider, stick a new turret, a new gun for the hatch, and paint it generic chapter colors and have a Land Raider. For me and my gaming circle that's acceptable, don't know about you guys though. Anyways, this is just a thought on how to reduce your gaming expenses.
As always my policy is the less money I spend on games the more I enjoy it. You're saving some twenty bucks for this conversion. Not a bad deal. Except if you or your gaming friends care very much about accurateness and what not. But if not then this is a fine conversion project you could get into.
